Will Hughes is an illustrator and writer from Malvern in Worcestershire. He studied at Hereford College of Art and the University of Edinburgh where he got a degree in Illustration. Will was mentored as part of the Picturehooks Mentoring Scheme culminating in an exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in 2019. He works mostly in ink and watercolour because that lends itself to quick and lively illustrations. In recent years he has combined that with a much broader range of materials, including collage to add vibrancy and colour to his work.
In 2019 he wrote and illustrated ‘What Not to Give an Ogre for His Birthday’ (Little Door Books). Following this he has illustrated a number of others including the ‘Universal Zoo’ (Otter-Barry Books), ‘Peetje and Flieflo and de VerdWaalde Superstinker’ (Lemniscaat) written by Mathilde Stein and published in the Netherlands.
Will has also worked as a comedy writer, writing on the Radio 4 parody news series “Time of the Week”.
