Ben Coppin is a 2D animator and children’s book illustrator based in south east London.
Ben is most noted for his fascination of the weird and wonderful - often experimenting with funky characters with bulbous eyes, pointy ears and exaggerated features. More often than not, taking inspiration from creepy zombie-like beings and quite “literally” bringing them to life! What’s not to love about that?
Ben likes to experiment with a mixture of colour and black and white, focusing heavily on bold black outlines which are all drawn by hand and conjured up organically from the depths of his mind - giving him an easily recognisable style.
Ben grew up in the very late 90’s and early noughties (2000’s) and like most kids at the time, loved to watch T.V - Ben took influence from some of his favourite shows on Cartoon Network such as Ed, Edd & Eddy, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Dexter’s Laboratory and Codename Kid’s Next Door to name a few… not to mention the work from the great powerhouse which is Walt Disney, as well as The Simpsons.
Like most illustrators and cartoonists, Ben found inspiration from his surroundings. Coming from a working class background and growing up on the Pepys estate in Deptford, Ben often created his own stories often taken from the nitty gritty aspects of real life and made them in to something fun.
